MLB ALL STAR GAME:

The game is about to make history

The MLB all star game, known as the Midsummer Classic gives us the chance to witness the best players in all of Major League Baseball on the field at the same time. Every year, thousands of fans wait for the impressive game to be played where the true stars of baseball show their potential and watching them in action cannot be compared to any other game.

Just by mentioning how Ichiro Suzuki hit the first inside-the-park home run in All-Star Game history and became the MVP of the season last year; another memorable moment of this decade was in the 2001 game when 40-year-old Cal Ripken Jr, playing in his 18th and final All-Star Game, made a memorable farewell with a third-inning home run off Dodgers right-hander Chan Ho Park. We certainly expect many more of those historic moments this year. The games played so far on this season of the Major League Baseball have been quite a ride and fans are expecting a lot more action for the games to come.

Some other impressive highlights of past MLB All Star Games according to MLB.com are:

  1. July 14, 1970, at Riverfront Stadium, Cincinnati: Reds' Pete Rose barreled into Indians catcher Ray Fosse in the bottom of the 12th inning to score the deciding run on a single by the Cubs' Jim Hickman off Angels left-hander Clyde Wright for a 5-4 victory.
  2. July 11, 1950, at Comiskey Park: The first All-Star Game to go into extra innings was won in the 14th on a home run by Cardinals second baseman Red Schoendienst, batting right-handed off Tigers left-hander Ted Gray.
  3. July 10, 1984, at Candlestick Park: On the 50th anniversary of Hubbell's achievement of five consecutive strikeouts, Valenzuela and Mets right-hander Dwight Gooden combined to strike out six batters in a row.

The MLB All Star Game is played every year by players of both the American and National League selected by fan vote for the starting position players. The respective managers (from the previous year's World Series) choose pitchers and reserve players. Since 2003, the pennant winner of the league winning the All-Star Game has been awarded home field advantage for the upcoming World Series. The first of all the All-Star Games took place in the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago, Illinois. During this game, the very famous Babe Ruth, on an amazing play hit the first home run in All-Star Game history, putting the American League up 3-0.

The Major League All Star Game is only a few weeks away; we cannot wait to check out who are going to be the star players on the game this year. Make sure you cast your vote and start getting ready to be a part of Major League Baseball History. This year, the MLB All Star Game will be held at the Yankee Stadium in Bronx, NY.
